Causes of obstructive sleep apnea

Obstructive Sleep Apnea or OSA is actually a sleeping disorder where simple words your throat shuts down for several seconds.

The muscles of your throat relax and this makes the tissues at the back of your throat to close. The result, you get blocked airways and your sleep gets disturbed every hour and it is called obstructive sleep apnea.

When the pattern is repeated it’s called apnea and in literal term this means without breath. Though there are many researches by renowned Universities and doctors but the actual cause of obstructive sleep apnea still seems too unknown.

Factors that causes Obstructive Sleep Apnea

The research came up with many causes rather than one as a singular reason cannot be pin pointed. Among many reasons of obstructive Sleep apnea there are some very common ones such as

  1. Age Factor
  2. Any kind of Brain Injury
  3. Muscle Tone depression
  4. Tissues
  5. Physical Aspect

Age Factor in obstructive sleep apnea

Age is known to be the common factor of many problems and obstructive sleep apnea is one of them. During old age the muscles are weak and it’s difficult for them to stay in shape.

Hence once they start to weaken the muscles cannot hold their position intact which results in depression of the throat tissue.

Brain Injury

Any kind of long and short term brain injury is also one of the common causes of OSA and its effects the person very much. Usually what happens is that both shock and the nerve that has been suppressed mix to cause OSA.

Muscle Tone

This is common among all alcoholics, drug users and people with any neurological issues with them. The muscle tone is decreased with these as the muscles are always dependant on staying loose when drugged.

This results in them retaining their shape and staying taunt to support the tissue at the back of the throat. Same goes with neurological and alcoholics, pills of any kind or simple drug usage results in the same effects of obstructive Sleep apnea.

Excessive tissues

Excess amount of tissues block the airways and this happens only with obese patients. Well, it’s not always obese people but it’s common among them.

Too much fat accumulation also results in the throat tissues being suppressed and causes obstructive Sleep apnea.

Physical Aspect

Anything physical around the throat, mouth or jaw also effects the tissue and creates the problem of obstructive sleep apnea. Often enough the shape or it also effects the throat, hence a visit to your doctor can help eliminate this problem for you.

Obstructive Sleep apnea, is not an incurable issue many remedies both you can do yourself along with getting help from the doctor can help you cure this. We hope you found out research helpful and hopefully you will have better sleep after this.
